Já para os brasileiros “jump” é uma atividade aeróbica muito em voga nas academias de ginástica. Então definitivamente não dá para traduzir literalmente, pular o carnaval, para “jump the carnival”. Costumo traduzir como “celebrate the carnival”
Não se pode falar de carnaval sem mencionar a Chegada da Kamélia. Lá nos anos de 1960, eu menino de calças curtas, ia para o Aeroporto de Ponta Pelada para ver a Kamélia chegar diretamente de Salvador. E claro, receber a chave da cidade da mão do prefeito. Aquilo era um acontecimento.
Nos dias de hoje, as diversas bandas que animam a cidade resgatam o carnaval de rua. É o mais democrático, legítimo e divertido. Mas muitos sentem falta dos bailes do Rio Negro e do Ideal Club.
